Join us for one of four events coming up in 2024: the VAWG – Safer Streets Training, are events aimed at equipping individuals with the understanding of violence against women and girls in our community.
These in-person events will take place at the Bouverie Place Shopping Centre, in Folkestone.
Wednesday, 31st January 2024: 10.30am – 12.30pm
Wednesday, 20th March 2024: 1 – 3pm
One in four women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime and our vision is of a world in which women and children live free from all forms of violence. This training will aim to empower those who attend with knowledge and awareness of VAWG and domestic abuse, to be able to recognise the signs, speak sensitively and signpost to specialist services.

Working with Folkestone Community Safety Partnership and the Office of the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner, these free, specialist training sessions are brought to you by Rising Sun Domestic Abuse Service and Homestart as part of Folkestone’s Safer Streets Project.
Rising Sun Training
Would you like learn how to recognise the signs of domestic abuse and how to support your colleagues or friends who are affected by domestic abuse?
It can be difficult to know what to do when someone tells you they are experiencing domestic abuse, or how to ask questions, if you suspect people want to talk.
People from all walks of life are affected by domestic abuse, so you having the confidence and knowledge to talk about abuse and where someone can seek help will make all the difference!
In partnership with Clarion Housing, Rising Sun Domestic Violence & Abuse Service is offering training to local businesses and voluntary organisations around domestic abuse.
This two hour training will help you develop your understanding of what domestic abuse is, what it looks like and how to respond.
The training will cover:
- The definition and dynamics of domestic abuse
- How it impacts survivors’ lives
- The barriers to seeking help
- How to respond to a survivor discloses abuse
- How to seek ongoing support
