Our framework
Rising Sun supports women and children affected by domestic abuse in Canterbury, Ashford and Folkestone & Hythe. We aim to prevent domestic abuse, provide specialist services which are survivor-centred, trauma-informed and gender-responsive, work in partnership with survivors and other professionals to bring about lasting change, and advocate for survivors to ensure their voice is heard.
Our underlying principle is to work alongside survivors in their recovery from the trauma they have experienced, listen to their needs and help them to draw on their own strengths to build safe and independent futures.

Here at Rising Sun, we have a dedicated team providing specialist support to women and children impacted by domestic abuse in Canterbury, Ashford and Folkestone & Hythe. We have a range of roles across our organisation, such as IDVA’s, outreach workers, mentors, counsellors, fundraisers, HR and many more!

Our impact
Rising Sun are the local expert provider of domestic abuse services in the Canterbury, Ashford and Folkestone & Hythe, and are embedded within our communities, working in partnership with other agencies and carrying out awareness raising, training, and fundraising activities to work towards our vision of ending domestic abuse.
We are proud to support more than 1,500 survivors every year, improving their safety, wellbeing, stability, relationships and education around domestic abuse and healthy relationships.

2024 GSK IMPACT
In 2024, we were announced as 1 of 10 winners of a GSK IMPACT Award for our outstanding contribution to improving the UK’s most vulnerable health and wellbeing, with a specialist focus on supporting survivors of domestic abuse across east Kent.
Kent Mental Wellbeing
In 2024, we received a Kent Mental Wellbeing Award for our Children & Young Person Counselling Service, for the specialist work that we do to help those in our community cope with their life, focusing on mental health, wellbeing, kindness and compassion.
High Sheriff of Kent
In 2023, we were recognised with a High Sheriff Award to celebrate our contribution to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable members of our community, through our work of supporting survivors of domestic abuse across east Kent.
