Violet

After finding the courage to flee her abusive partner, Violet found out that she was pregnant. Having secured a privately rented flat, she felt she was safe, but soon after, she was served with 28 days’ notice to leave the property. At 20 years old, and 7 weeks pregnant, Violet became overwhelmed by the barriers of accessing support and found herself on the brink of being homeless. After learning about Rising Sun, Violet self-referred herself into our support and soon after moved into Liberty House, our supported accommodation for young women.

Fred

By 10 years old, Fred had experienced significant trauma from the domestic abuse he’d witnessed from his dad towards his mum. At the start of his time with our specialist Children & Young People Counsellor, Fred was non-verbal and very reluctant to engage with the support he was being offered. In the first session, Fred did not speak, however as the sessions progressed he started to use his voice more.  His counsellor worked with him using a child-led approach, offering a gentle and welcoming environment to help him feel safe.

Valentina

Following a visit to a One Stop drop in Valentina was referred for high risk IDVA support due to abuse from her partner. She was being coercively controlled and the perpetrator was threatening to make allegations that would threaten the career she had worked hard for. He was also refusing to move out of her property meaning she was the one that had to move out in order to keep herself safe. Her perpetrator would show up at the school pick-up each day to threaten and pressure her.
